A natural extension of Place Jacques-Cartier and Place Vauquelin, Champ-de-Mars marks a boundary between the old and new city. The project to redevelop this site transformed a large parking lot into an evocative public landmark that transcends its original vocation.
The granite-paved esplanade is a 20th-century addition to the site. It joins the main civic buildings, enhances the archaeological remains, and provides access to the stairs of Place Vauquelin. This transition also includes a lookout, offering a panoramic view of the city and Mount Royal, and bearing an inscription of the Montreal declaration against racial discrimination.
